Sarah Rayner

Biography

squared

At the age of 7, Sarah was asked what instrument she might like to learn.
Having heard her brother painstakingly learn the violin for the previous four years, Sarah knew that it had to be a saxophone. Classically trained on the clarinet, Sarah moved on to the sax as soon as she could get away with, and hasn't looked back!
Sarah has worked with various big names such as Bad Manners, Paulo Nutini, Fairport Convention, Van Tramp, Carvin Jones and Ron Trueman-Border.
Sarah teaches saxophone, clarinet and singing from her home studio in Heathfield. Please view the Lessons page for further details.
Sarah is renowned for her improvisational skills and is equally at home in an informal blues jam or a large stage setting.
Taught by some of the best in the business (including Stranglers lead vocalist, Paul Roberts, and Chip Jenkins from the Brighton Institute of Modern Music), Sarah's vocals have recently been likened to Janis Joplin, Carol Decker, and Bonnie Raitt.
Her onstage presence is one of someone who feels completely at home, and loves what she does. In Sarah's words, 'stage fright is the fear of being offstage'.
For the last two years in a row, Sarah's songs reached the finals and semi-finals of the UK Songwriting contest, beating over 6000 other entries in their eventual positions.
Sarah plays all the instruments on almost every one of her own original recordings, getting help in only for those strange instruments like trumpet and harmonica!
Sarah is now in the process of working on her first album of her own original tracks; some of which can be found here on the Demos page.
Sarah is always willing to consider dep. work, session work, and any other playing opportunities. Please don't hesitate to make contact.
